Woodcock and Other Species at Rogart, Brora, Sutherland, North Scotland

Woodcock shooting and grouse stalking also available but the walked up shooting can be truly spectacular on this excellent estate, roe stalking.

Roe buck stalking is available for two months during May and June. Roe doe stalking can be arranged during the season between 21 October and 31 March. Woodcock -. Best Time of the season November-January No charge for dogs.

Grouse
Available for two weeks from 12 August onwards for up to 3 days per week for 2 - 6 guns per day. Shooting is either over pointers or walked up depending on conditions. The expected bag is 5 - 10 brace per day.

Red deer stalking
Red deer stag stalking is available from the end of September to 20 October. Stalking is for one rifle per day normally on five days each week accompanied by the estate stalker with cross country vehicle. Hind stalking is available from 21 October onwards.

Woodcock and Rough shooting
Walked up pheasant shooting is available for 4 weeks during November. A mixed bag of around 60 head of mixed game daily may be expected. Shooting is normally on three days each week. Woodcock numbers are usually 10-15 per bag mixed.

Rabbit shooting
Rabbit shooting can be arranged on a daily basis from 1 November onwards.

Accommodation

The lodge is close to Sutherland's east coast with an elevated south facing position and magnificent views across Strath Fleet.

Guests can enjoy the warm atmosphere of a private house beautifully furnished with open log fires and house staff to ensure your stay is a memorable occasion. Parties may choose to self-cater or employ the services of our cook who will discuss with you a range of menu ideas based on traditional Scottish recipes designed to meet every taste.

The lodge is fully furnished for parties up to twelve guests, with accommodation for a limited number of additional guests by arrangement. Lettings are weekly with guests arriving after 4.00 pm on Sunday and departing by 10.00 am on Saturday.

Dornoch and Golspie on the east coast provide a range of local services including shopping facilities, hotels, garages, post offices, health centre and gift shops. There is also a local village store and post office in Rogart. Inverness can be reached in a little over an hour by car and provides all the services of a major regional centre.

Guests have access to the Tressady Estate extending to some 22,000 acres and offering a range of sporting activities when in season including grouse shooting, red and roe deer stalking, hill loch fishing and rough shooting. A full clay pigeon shoot is situated within the policies. Close to the lodge, Yves Loch provides guests with fly fishing for hard fighting rainbow trout before setting forth to the hill in search of the wild brown trout. A Glenalmond hill vehicle is available with guide to take guests for a tour of the hill where red deer, golden eagles, and red grouse among many other species may be seen.

Other recreational facilities close by include sea fishing from Brora, golf at one of many challenging courses including the famous Royal Dornoch, swimming from numerous sandy beaches or the heated swimming pool in Golspie, pony trekking or simply visiting the many places of historic interest in this fascinating part of the Highlands. Dunrobin Castle, the ancient seat of the Earls of Sutherland, one mile north of Golspie is open to the public from May to September and is well worth a visit.

The lodge is fully equipped to a high standard with all bed and table linen provided. The fully fitted kitchen includes a four oven Aga, electric cooker, dishwasher, two fridges and deep freeze. The lodge is served by mains water and electricity with full oil fired central heating throughout.

A telephone and fax machine are available for the use of guests.

Included in the rental
The basic rent for the lodge varies with the time of the year and includes all accommodation for up to 12 guests together with the services of a housekeeper and cleaner for 4 hours each day. Fishing for salmon and trout as described above is included.

A supplement is payable for additional guests over 12 and for the services of the cook.

Location

Inverness airpost is nearest and has daily flights in from many international destinations hire a car and travel to the lodge allow 2 hours by road. Collection and return from the airport is £250 per party .

Cost

The estate is leased out by the week at £6000 per group it sleeps 12 persons the woodcock and rough shooting adding some grouse is £270 per gun per day required with guides and dogs tips are at your discretion.
